Speaking to WBZ-TV, Ginny Ballou revealed that the raccoon had managed to get into her house via a pet flap on her back porch, and then made its way into her bedroom, where it jumped on her face.
Initially, Ms Ballou thought that the raccoon was her cat, but knew that something was awry when the raccoon mauled her lip and chin, and refused to loosen its hold on the lower half of her face.
After struggling with the rabid beast for two minutes, Ms Ballou eventually managed to overcome the raccoon by hitting it with a phone lying by her bedside.
The raccoon has been destroyed, and Ms Ballou has begun to have treatment for rabies. As quoted on WBZ-TV, she revealed how upsetting the attack had been.”It’s something I’ll never forget,” she said. “It was that scary.”
