Central London doesn’t seem promising to find a hotbed of indigenous Australian art.

But the Rebecca Hossack Gallery is one such place.

Founded by Aussie Rebecca Hossack 21 years ago the gallery has been at the vanguard of introducing art by indigenous peoples, often but not exclusively from Australia, to British audiences.

Spread over three levels,it’s a relaxed and interesting place for a wander. The top floor has recently become a new permanent gallery, London’s first space dedicated to Australian art, while the gallery’s 21st anniversary is being celebrated with a series of special exhibitions.

Also worth checking out is the nearby sister gallery in Charlotte Street, which focuses more on Western art.
