The dog was shot to fame and became Australia’s best known pet actor, in a screenplay where he united a Pilbara mining community.

Koko’s owner, Nelson Woss, said he was upset to have lost his “best mate,” reported ABC News.

“Through the making of Red Dog, Koko became Australia’s favourite dog,”

“He certainly changed my life forever

“I will miss his companionship, his remarkable outgoing, friendly nature and the many long walks that we enjoyed together in Perth and around the country.”

Film Red Dog took more than AU$21 million at the box office, making it the eighth highest grossing Aussie film to date.
Koko also won best dog in a foreign film at the Golden Collar Awards in Los Angeles.
