Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon was admitted to hospital yesterday after being hit by a car while jogging.

The Oscar winning star of Walk The Line was reportedly jogging in Santa Monica when a car travelling at approximately 32 km per hour hit her.

According to police the car was being driven by an 84 year old woman.

“The initial investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, an 84 year old female resident of Santa Monica, was travelling southbound and struck a female pedestrian jogging westbound within an unmarked crosswalk," said Sergeant Richard Lewis of Santa Monica Police.

“The pedestrian was subsequently identified as Reese Witherspoon. Witherspoon suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for medical treatment.”

Witherspoon was released from hospital soon after.

A spokesperson for the 35 year old actress said she was "resting comfortably at home".
