The sheer anticipation of loading your plate with goodies and the fleeting moment of feeling naughty as your return to the buffet bar for more tasty treats. Sadly, in my experience, most of the joy dissipates when you see the sorry affair that is wet, drab, scrambled eggs and bacon so over-cooked breaks when you look at it, never mind using a knife.

Delightfully the breakfast at the Andaz managed to keep my excitement levels high through the entire breakfast. Served in the grand 1901 ballroom, still with the original stain glass dome which survived the Blitz of the 1940s, a table filled with culinary pleasures awaited me.

Eagerly I filled my plate with the like of Loch Fyne salmon, bites of mackerel, juicy sausages, bacon, parma ham, whole button mushrooms and a hash brown to top it all off. I was staggered with the selection on offer and equally impressed with the quality of the food.

Making the most of the all you can eat buffet I returned to sample more of the offerings. This time, I opted for some mixed fruit, a mini apricot pastry and freshly sliced bread, Again, all delicious.

I washed down my food with some JING peppermint tea and rounded the meal off with a soy latte.

My date, who was feeling slightly more restrained that me, ordered the classic Eggs Benedict off the specialties menu which is also included in the buffet price. That menu also includes a Breakfast Bagel (smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and creamy cheese) or the sweeter option of Pancakes, Waffles or French Toast served with maple syrup, seasonal berries or streaky bacon.
