Ferdinand, known for his sartorial elegance off the field, scored his white-with-blue-stars onesie as a gift for his 33rd birthday.
Delighted, he immediately posted a picture of himself in the jumpsuit on Twitter and tweeted: ‘Just wearing a birthday present I was given….the latest fashion must have….a jumpsuit aka a daddy grow!’
Ferdinand was probably expecting jealous comments and affirmation of his fashion choice, but his twitter followers fans were less than impressed.
tweeted: “Tell me… what’s just SO not a good look? Rio Ferdinand is rocking a ONESIE in this pic.”
It didn’t bother Rio though. He claimed he welcomed ‘haters’, writing: ‘I embrace hate on here….if u aint got some hate on u then u aint doing s***!’
The former Leeds defender was still fully behind the ‘daddy grow’ (his term for the onesie) even after media outlets printed the picture and ridiculed him.
‘If I tweet a pic do you think I’m bothered if the same pic goes in a paper?! Naaaaaaaat!! The onesy aka The Daddy grow is an xmas must have!’, he added.
The OnePiece is the latest fashion trend, with US rappers and English socialites owning the all-in-one outfit.
It costs between £80 and £120 (but you can get them at Primark for cheaper than that) and even actress turned fashion designer Sadie Frost is reportedly a fan.
