All major Australian news outlets are claiming the first foreign Wallabies coach has had his contract cut six months short after a meeting with Australian Rugby Union chief Bill Pulver.

Queensland Reds coach McKenzie is most likely to be unveiled ahead of ACT Brumbies contender Jake White.

McKenzie recently was considered a good shout for the Ireland job, but missed out to New Zealander Joe Schmidt.

Deans’ position has been under threat for much of his tenure, but a string of inconsistent results and a highly unfortunate string of injuries to major players is what his time will be remembered for.

The loss to the rampant Lions, which blew out to 41-16 in the deciding Test to give the Lions their first series win for 16 years.

Former prop McKenzie played 51 Tests for the Wallabies between 1990-1997 and was the Australian assistant coach for three years before taking over the NSW Waratahs, Stade Francais and from 2010, the Reds.
