Real Madrid soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo says opposing fans jeer him out of envy because of his looks, his money and his talent.
Ronaldo was the favourite target of Dinamo Zagreb’s fans during Madrid’s 1-0 win in its Champions League opener on Wednesday.
The Portugal forward said “I think I am whistled at because I am handsome, rich and a great player and people are jealous of me.”
Ronaldo also criticised the referee for not booking Dinamo’s Jerko Leko when his tackle left the Madrid player with a bloody ankle.
He said “I don’t understand anything. Some players can’t be touched while I receive a beating.”
“We are very happy with three points we took, but I’m not so satisfied
with the refereeing,” he told reporters.
“I hope we never have this
referee again. People talk of fair-play, of protecting good players,
but I never get any of that. I don’t understand a thing.”
