Rufus Wainwright is flamboyance personified so it’s fitting that the Canadian baroque-popper should be the first solo artist to take up residency at the Royal Opera House. Five nights of “Velvet, Glamour and Guilt” kicks off on July 18 with his ‘Rufus Does Judy!’ Garland show; sister Martha and dad Loudon will join him on the July 19 and 21 shows respectively before he winds up on July 23 with his Prima Donna opera. Expect it all to be wonderfully OTT as the Britten Sinfonia, conducted by Stephen Oremus, joins him.
