Rupert Murdoch was pressed on rumours that News International journalists hacked the phones of 9/11 victims during his questioning in Parliament today.

Murdoch remained adamant, though, that the phones of 9/11 victims were not hacked but promised he would “absolutely” launch an investigation should any evidence of wrongdoing emerge.

Rupert Murdoch and his son James Murdoch are being questioned by a Parliament Select Committee today as hearing open into the phone hacking scandal at News Corp.

While being questioned by Labour MP Tom Watson, Rupert Murdoch pleaded ignorance several times, simply claimed, “I didn’t know” or offering one-word responses. Sensing his father’s discomfort, James Murdoch offered several times to take the lead, but was told by Watson that he would prefer to hear from the elder Murdoch.

Watson: “It’s revealing in itself what he doesn’t know.”
