The controversial international Australian News Corp owner, who last year closed down the News of the World after furious reactions during the phone hacking scandal, deleted a Christmas holidays-themed comment after being ticked off on Twitter by his wife, Wendi Deng.

Murdoch tweeted ‘Maybe Brits have too many holidays for broke country’.

Soon afterwards, Deng (whose account, unlike her husband’s, is not verified as being genuine) responded in urgency ‘RUPERT!!! delete tweet!’ then added: ‘EVERY1 @rupertmurdoch was only having a joke pROMSIE!!!’

Soon afterwards the tweet was deleted, although since nothing online goes unnoticed, especially public declarations by widely criticised media moguls, the message was spread and screen-grabbed.

Murdoch joined the social network officially on New Year’s Eve and has since amassed over 86,000 followers.

During last year’s News Corp parliamentary hearings, Deng sprung to action to protect her husband from a pie in the face from a protester who had slipped past security.
