Sade

The soundtrack to a million posh dinner parties during the 80s, Sade’s ultra-smooth sophisti-pop was famously derided by some critics as “beige”, but nevertheless managed to shift 50 million records worldwide. In any case, there was no denying the rich mellifluous tones of British-Nigerian lead singer Sade Adu.

Unusually, her voice, as heard on the band’s sublime smash hit Smooth Operator, embodied both elegance and melancholia. Returning to a UK stage for the first time in 17 years, the band will run through their six-album back catalogue and plug their Ultimate Collection CD.
