Marinko Matosevic and Casey Dellacqua’s second round losses left Sam again on her lonesome in the tournament in which she made the 2010 final.

Matosevic was unlucky to meet a resurgent Andy Murray, the seventh seed, who comfortably moved on in straight sets, 6-3 6-1 6-3.

After the defeat of Heather Watson, Murray is the last remaining Brit in the draw (until he loses, and he’s a Scot again).

Dellacqua gave 23rd seed Lucie Safarova a proper battle in her three-setter, going down 6-1 5-7 6-3.

The other Aussies, Lleyton Hewitt and Bernard Tomic, along with Nick Kyrgios, Matt Ebden, James Duckworth and Ashleigh Barty, didn’t make the second round leaving Stosur solo for the fifth time in six years.

Her next hurdle is Slovakia’s ninth seed Dominika Cibulkova on Friday.

While Matosevic was elated to have made the second round after winning his first Grand Slam match in 12 attempts, Dellacqua didn’t give Safarova an easy day out at all.

She was two points from bowing out of the tournament 6-1 5-2 and 30-0 down, she found a hot streak to win the set 5-7. The run didn’t continue though and she was out.
