The actress took home awards for Favourite Movie Actress, Favourite Comedic Actress, Favourite Dramatic Movie Actress and Favourite Movie Duo (with George Clooney for film Gravity), and is also tipped to win several more awards in the coming season, as well as being nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress this weekend.
Among other highlights on the night were Britney Spears’ first ever People’s Choice Award for Favourite Pop Artist, Justin Timberlake’s three gongs for Favourite Male Artist, Favourite R&B Artist and Favourite Album (for The 20/20 Experience), and Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev sharing the stage post-breakup to accept their award for Favourite On-Screen Chemistry.
Almost as awkward as Spears and Timberlake being in the same room, yes, especially at the point JT played perfect husband by thanking his “Beautiful wife for teaching me patience and the little things like just putting the dishes in the dishwasher. It goes a long way. Fellas, you’re welcome.”
Former American Idol star Jennifer Hudson also picked up an award for something other than her singing talents after being acknowledged for her work with the Julian D King Gift Foundation, which she formed with her sister Julia Hudson in honour of their murdered nephew Julian King.
Accepting the Favourite Humanitarian Award, Hudson said she hoped the award would bring a welcome spotlight to the foundation, “Thank you for honouring me with the Favourite Humanitarian Award, my sister Julia and I were raised with the belief that helping others was always very important. This spotlight will provide us with the opportunity to share all the amazing work being done by the Julian D King Gift Foundation for children in the city of Chicago and around the United States.”
There were a couple of other surprises on the night, with zombie TV show The Walking Dead beating out Downton Abbey in the Favourite Cable TV Drama category as well as beating Breaking Bad in the Favourite Anti-Hero category (thanks to Andrew Lincoln’s portrayal of the show’s character Rick Grimes).
