Scotland in 2-3 days

It’s all about Edinburgh. Take the train up, check into your hostel or B&B and start exploring. You’ll have enough time to see all the major sights in and around town — don’t miss Edinburgh Castle and the Grassmarket — and savour a big night or two on the town as well.

You still won’t be doing the place justice but a week is a good amount of time to see a fair bit. Start in Edinburgh or venture further afield to check out Glasgow for a night or two.

Venture up to the Scottish Highlands — Perthshire is a good base for adventure activities like canyoning or mountain biking, or head across to Fort William for world-class hiking, mountaineering, ice climbing and avalanche safety courses.

Make sure you see Loch Ness as well. Give yourself a good hour or two by the banks to catch of glimpse of old Nessie.

Use your time to see the sights mentioned above, but include a jaunt to the Orkney or Shetland islands north of the mainland. They are isolated, raw, remote and beautiful, with colourful characters and loads of wildlife too. See Visit Shetland for more info.
