As the sun woke, the vast, fiery red, sea of dunes slowly revealed themselves as I sat, silently dwarfed, a top Dune 45. I was mesmerized. A wild, unforgiving ecosystem has been created here, yet I was overwhelmed by how much life depended on it when I looked a little closer. A superb example of raw beauty and the power of Nature.
The dune sands are derived from sediments washed down the Orange River and moved northwards and inland by the shore drift and southerly winds, creating the sea of dunes at Namib-naukluft Park, Namibia.
