British newspaper The Times has released its annual list of the world’s
top 200 universities .. with seven Australian institutions appearing in
the top 100… and one in the top 20.

The Australian National
University in Canberra is the highest-ranking Australian institution in
the list at number 16 .. trailing a stream of universities in the
United States and the United Kingdom.

The list is based on the
QS World University Rankings… which assesses the strengths of the
world’s leading universities according to student performance ..
proportion of international students .. employer surveys .. and peer
surveys .. among other indicators.

The top spots went to
Harvard University and Yale University in the United States .. followed
by Britain’s Cambridge and Oxford Universities.

Other
high-scoring Australian universities included the University of Sydney
at 37 .. the University of Melbourne at 38 .. the University of
Queensland at 43 .. the University of New South Wales at 45 ..
Melbourne’s Monash University at 47 .. and the University of Western
Australia in spot 83.
