According to WA Today, Dr Sharon Burden and the marine activist organisation Sea Shepherd are calling for an injunction to stop the baited drum line culling programme off the WA coast, claiming it illegal because it contravenes the law that protects great white sharks.
Dr Burden’s son Kyle was killed off Bunker Bay in 2011 while bodyboarding.
Opponents of the cull have instead called for measures that provide protection, including more shark tagging, better beach alert warning systems, education about shark risks, shark repellent and shark-proof and a continuation of research into shark behaviours.
