Now the sun’s shining, the two decking-style terraces are packed with cocktail-sipping punters taking advantage of the alfresco vibe. Skylounge is part of the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, so expect tourists as well as City folk draped over the chairs and tables (no bookings in case it rains) in the stylish roof garden, which leads out from the main inside bar on the 12th floor.

The grub It’s very fancy pub grub, served like tiny works of art on big white plates. Choose from bar bites, such as triple-cooked chips, or platters, including spiced lamb sliders – mini burgers topped with ragout and cheese. If it’s sunny, they’ll fire up the terrace BBQ, offering dishes such as sticky ribs and grilled tuna steak.

Behind the bar An impressive selection of imaginative cocktails, fine whiskies, top-notch wines and bottled beers – all at above-average London prices.

Bill please Bar bites from £3.75; sharing platters from £7. Bottled beers from £6; cocktails from £10.50; wine from £6.30/ £25.50 per glass/ bottle.

Verdict It’s the perfect place to get high in London – although the drink prices will bring you back down to earth with a bump.
