Smith hit 104 from 112 balls to secure a three-wicket win over the Proteas in the fourth outing of their five-match series leading into Tests against India.

Keeper Matthew Wade joined Smith for a 121-run partnership as they ran down 268 runs at the MCG.

It sounds cruisy but was a massive comeback after the Aussies fell to five for 98 before Smith and Wade’s sixth wicket heroics against the world’s best attack to finish it off with an over in hand.

The fifth match is on Sunday in Sydney.
