A vote by the SPL Chairmen denied the newly formed company form playing in Scotland’s top flight of football.
“Clubs voted overwhelmingly to reject the application from Rangers newco to join the SPL,” a league spokesman said.
Rangers newco emerged from the ashes of the once mighty Glasgow Rangers after the club combusted following debts of more than 134m. they wil now face the start of next season in the Scottish Football League (SFL), and it still remains to be seen which tier of that.
From being one of the dominant forces in Scottish football, Rangers could end up playing in League Three, the fourth tier, and having to fight their way back up the leagues.
