Nuwan Kulasekara was on fire for the visitors in the third ODI at Brisbane’s Gabba, knocking over four of Australia’s top five in his five for 22.
Only Australia’s tail wagging gave them the slightest hope after falling to nine for 40. Mitchell Starc (22no) and Xavier Doherty (15) combined for a 34 run last wicket partnership, guiding their team past Australia’s lowest ever ODI total of 70.
Mitchell Johnson looked dangerous with the ball (three for 11) and helped take Sri Lanka to four for 37 in their hardly convincing reply, but they evenly stuttered their way to the required 75 with six wickets down in the 20th over.
Sri Lanka now leads the series 2-1.
