And it was an epic, NSW defending with passion right up until the final siren at the Suncorp Stadium.
On the night – the 100th State of Origin game – both sides scored two tries each as it finished 12-8, Trent Hodkinson’s kicking making the difference as the Blues enjoyed a rare Origin win.
NSW fullback Hayne, who scored the Blues’ second try to take it to 10-4, was the star man with a magnificent display in both defence and attack.
It is a massive win for the Blues who’ll head to the ANZ Stadium in three weeks knowing a win will end Queensland’s eight-year stranglehold on the competition.
