The latest big budget screen adaptation of stage musical Les Miserables gets 9 nominations.
After last week’s nomination at the Producers Guild of America Awards (PGA) for the latest and widely applauded addition to the James Bond franchise, Skyfall, gets 8 nominations, slightly less than anticipated for the largely London-based action-packed spy drama.
Ben Affleck’s hostage negotiation thriller Argo also gets a nod in for Best Film as well as Lead and Support Actor nods, a total of 7 nominations in all.
Quentin Tarantino’s latest, slavery exploitation action film Django Unchained, is up for 5 awards, including Supporting Actor for the impressive Christoph Waltz, who also starred in the director’s previous film Inglorious Basterds.
“As far as Lincoln was concerned, all the attention was on Daniel Day-Lewis because, whatever anybody thinks about the film – and the critics have been somewhat divided, everybody thought his performance was captivating and completely believable.” film critic Mark Kermode told the BBC.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards will take place at London’s Royal Opera House on February 10th and will be hosted by Stephen Fry.
