Meryl Streep has been crowned the biggest actress of the past 20 years , beating Hollywood’s leading ladies including Emma Watson and Daisy Ridley.

Streep, who claimed more than half (54%) of the votes in  a recent nationwide survey by Sky Cinema is joined at the top of the table by national treasure Dame Judi Dench and Pretty Woman Julia Roberts. She is also honoured as the most talented female movie actress.

The poll of 2,000 people across the UK saw older actors trounce the young in many categories, with Daniel Craig at age 48 voted the best actor of the past year (32%). Star Wars favourite John Boyega, half of Craig’s age at 24, only managed to scoop 6%. 

Brits chose Hollywood legend Harrison Ford among the top three biggest male stars of the past 20 years with 35% of the vote, narrowly missing out on the top spot to Tom Cruise (36%).

Famous for his racy roles and new girlfriend, Tom Hiddleston was awarded the accolade of ‘most on trend movie star of the moment’ (37%) while stars such as Chris Hemsworth were considered less on trend.

While Dame Judi Dench won the title of ‘favourite female actress of all time’ taking 35% of the vote, Jennifer Lawrence was voted the most on trend female actress (32%) and the most popular (34%), with Emma Watson coming a close second to both (27% and 27% respectively).

In the male camp, Tom Hanks took almost a third of the votes to be crowned the nation’s favourite male movie actor of all time thanks to favourites including Forrest Gump, Cast Away and Philadelphia.
