The memorial cruise left from Southampton around 3pm yesterday before being delayed by gales and waves reaching 30ft in the middle of the Irish sea.
The cruise arrived at Cobh, on Ireland’s southern coast, about two hours later than expected. It will sail through the Atlantic to New York, stopping at sites along the way that have a special connection with the Titanic disaster.
“There is a bad feeling on board that maybe the voyage is doomed by bad luck,” a passenger said after docking in Cobh.
The 12-night tour includes a visit to the spot where the original Titanic sank off the coast of Newfoundland early on April 15, 1912. Its 1,309 passengers include relatives of victims who died on board the RMS Titanic.
The Balmoral was on schedule to continue its journey late Monday evening.
