The 6-4, 6-3 gave the Eastbourne player her biggest win to date, against a player who she also defeated in January at the Australian Open.
A hard fought match, see Konta break the Danish player in the first game of the match and from that moment onwards, carried a steely determination about her performance as the match went on, before wrapping up the first set with an ace, just as Wozniacki was starting to threaten the Brits serve.
The second set followed a similar pattern with Konta taking hold of it, and then winning the last 4 games to seal victory.
With such a huge title in the bag, Konta knows people will talk about her as a future grand slam champion. “I think ive always had the belief of wanting to become a grand slam champion, wanting to become the best in the world. I think that stays throughout, with every player I imagine, their career. Without that, I don’t think it makes…victories as sweet and I think also the defeats as motivating. I think that stays,” Konta told the WTA website, who know moves up to a career high world ranking of 7 following her 3rd WTA title and no.2 on the Road to Singapore season list.
In the men’s tournament, Roger Federer defeated Rafa Nadal in the final to take his third major title of the season.
Federer, who defeated Nadal in the Australian Open final in January, followed that up by defeating his rival in a one sided final.
After defeating Stan Wawrinka in Indian Wells and Nadal, Federer completed the Sunshine Double and made it a remarkable start to the 2017 season.
