Getting there
Most international flights connect with Houston. From there, you can fly to Austin, San Antonio, El Paso and other destinations in Texas.
From the UK, Continental Airlines flies to Texas from £419.60 return, as of October 2008.
Getting around
Texas is massive —it’s the second largest state in the US. Flying is a good way to city hop. There are plenty of airlines to choose from, including Continental which has its headquarters in Houston.
Otherwise, buying or hiring a care is essential, especially if you want to get of the beaten track. There are plenty of car hire companies to choose from in the major cities and towns. Driving is a great way to take in the stunning desert landscape, but beware it can often take a day or more to drive between major cities.
For a real taste of the outdoors in Texas, it’s well worth using more unconventional modes of transport, such as horse riding, quad biking, rafting and hiking on day or overnight trips, especially in the Big Bend National Park, which is the ultimate playground for campers and naturists.
