Declaring that a joke should never end with I’m joking’ Birbiglia’s all-new comedy tiptoes hilariously through the minefield that is modern-day joke-telling. Thank God for Jokes has experienced widespread success in the US, having recently completed a huge 100-city tour, Birbiglia then took the show off-Broadway to The Lynn Redgrave Theatre. In 2012 Birbiglia first burst onto the scene with his Sundance award-winning directorial debut Sleepwalk With Me. In recent years his work started appearing on public radio’s This American Life, where he began a meaningful collaboration with host and producer Ira Glass.
Birbiglia is a comedian, writer, actor, and director known for his highly personal approach to comedy. As one of the US’ busiest working comedians, he serves as creator, writer and star of the film Don’t Think Twice which released on 22 July in NY and is expanding to additional cities in the following weeks. He was recently seen in the fourth season of Netflix’s Orange is the New Black and Universal’s Popstar: Never Stop Never Stoppingand has appeared inHBO’s Girls as well as the films Trainwreck, The Fault in our Stars, Digging For Fire, Adult Beginners, Cedar Rapids, Going The Distance and Your Sister’s Sister.
As well as his film and television appearances Mike Birbiglia is an established live performer. His first one-man show Sleepwalk With Me was presented by Broadway legend Nathan Lane and his second one-man show My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Solo Show and toured concert halls around the world. As a writer he entered the New York Times Bestseller List with his debut work Sleepwalk with Me & Other Painfully True Stories which went on to become a finalist for the Thurber Prize For American Humor.
