IT worker Janine Hughes suffered the brewed awakening after stopping off at the drive-through Costa outlet at Llansamlet, near Swansea, Wales, for a well-earned break from the daily grind.

“I drove off and took two sips of my latte and it tasted like iron,” she told the Daily Mail. “I realised something was wrong but I did not know what at the time. Then I saw blood on the inside of the lid and realised there was blood in the coffee. I was filled with horror when I realised what I had just drunk.”

A furious Janine was determined to seek redress by any beans necessary, and immediately drove back to the Costa, where the manager apologised and offered her a new latte.

He explained that the blood had come from a cut on the barista’s hand, and Janine is now awaiting the result of blood tests to ensure that she has not been infected by her vampire coffee. She has since received a written apology from Costa’s area manager, but insists she will never drink the chain’s coffee again.
