The scene This recently opened cocktail bar on a side street in south London’s trendy Balham combines top cocktails with a chilled out party vibe.

The low-level lighting, high-standing tables and some comfy and cosy booths make it great for both couples and larger groups.

It also has karaoke in the Monkey Lounge – in association with London’s premier karaoke provider Lucky Voice – which can be hired out for parties, too.

The grub Sharing platters are available from Tajine restaurant next door, including chicken skewers, grilled lamb kefta, and mechouia dip with coriander (all £7.50).

Behind the bar With more than 75 cocktails on the menu you are spoiled for choice.

There are the regulars – Manhattan, margarita, etc – as well as premium cocktails and house specials.

I try the Dark and Stormy (dark spiced rum, lime juice, ginger beer) and the Mexican Dusty & Spicy (tequila, Cointreau, cinnamon with a very spicy Tabasco kick), the former outstanding and serving as a ‘warm-up’ for the latter’s fiery onslaught.

My partner opts for the less palette-burning Monkey’s Nuts, a Monkey Shoulder whisky sour, and the classic mojito. Both are stunning.

Bill please Cocktails are very reasonably priced here, from £7 upwards.

There is also a two-for-one happy hour from 4pm-8pm during the week and all day on Sundays.

Verdict Great cocktails, vibe and price – it’s a top venue for a big night out.
