33-year-old Laura Fernee, who lives in the ritzy London suburb of Notting Hill, has said that her physical attractiveness has made it impossible for her to stay in a job.

Ms Fernee, a graduate with a PhD in Science, had been working at a $47,000 a year job as a medical researcher, but says that her looks forced her to quit, due to the unwanted attention of male co-workers and the jealousy of her fellow females.

Yesterday, she told the Daily Mail: “I’m not lazy and I’m no bimbo. The truth is my good looks have caused massive problems for me when it comes to employment, so I’ve made the decision that employment just isn’t for me at the moment. It’s not my fault … I can’t help the way I look.”

No, honey, of course it’s not your fault…

“Male colleagues were only interested in me for how I looked. I wanted them to recognise my achievements and my  professionalism but all they saw was my face and body.” Completely understandable, men are horribly lecherous most of the time.

She said men left “romantic gifts” on her desk and she was “constantly asked out”, which she found “sleazy”.

As for the women, well, according to Ms Fernee, they were even worse.

“They [other women] assumed because I was pretty, I was stupid, so didn’t take me seriously at first and, because of their own insecurities, were jealous of my looks.

“Then when they realised I was very good at my job, possibly better than them, they hated me even more.”

She gave a similarly self indulgent interview to a UK based TV station (see above), where she also unveiled her plans to write a book on her traumatic experiences. What a load of drivel that’s likely to be.

Listen to her voice as well, she sounds like she could give annunciation lessons to the Queen… In a Monty Python sketch, anyway.

Just because the 33-year-old is no longer gainfully employed (and, indeed, has no intention of ever being so again) does not mean she has slowed down her ‘glamorous’ lifestyle.

Her aging parents have been paying for her $3,124 a month rent for her pad in Notting Hill, as well as picking up her gargantuan credit card payments which have gone into buying designer clothes, shoes and handbags.

They also fit the $1000 bills every few months for their daughter’s hair.

To be fair to Ms Fernee she does stump up the $100 or so fees a month so that she can maintain her physique at a local gym, which is good of her really.

As with any self respecting (debatable use of the phrase in this context) good looking person, being seen out and about at the best bars and restaurants is a must, and with Ms Fernee this comes as no exception. She estimated that she would spend the best part of $2000 a month just on ‘socialising’.

She said her critics were “underestimating just what a curse good looks can be in the workplace”. Yes, love, I’m sure life is excruciatingly difficult for you.

While I certainly wouldn’t kick her out of bed (for want of a less crass, misogynistic phrase) I’m not entirely sure Ms Fernee is quite as beautiful as she thinks she is.

Still, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and all that shit.
