After all millions and millions of years ago, Britain was once a tropical paradise. Maybe not so much anymore but yellow sands and crystal clear water still adorn the UK’s coastline. Ok maybe I’m exaggerating a bit but there’s still plenty do from sailing to fishing to crab catching and climbing. Here’s a list of the best beaches in the UK, not necessarily in order of preference but ranging from typical British summer resort to the more hidden and idyllic gems.
1. St Ives, Cornwall
One of the best bays on the British Isles this very Cornwallian wonder. Spread out on the Atlantic coast of north-west Cornwall, St Ives shows off a few galleries, beautiful sand dunes, good surf, strong cider, brilliant bird watching and lots of fishing opportunities. Come down here with ye olde mates to enjoy the original British west country side.
2. Lundy Island
Located between England and Wales, this is the biggest island in the Bristol channel. It’s been dubbed as Britain’s tenth natural wonder because of it’s unique fauna and flora. The population masses up to a whole 28 people and there is hardly anything n the island apart from a pub, a zoo, a shop and a few darn good beaches. Class. It’s very popular with climbers, there are plenty of good crags on the cliffs, a few bolted routes here and there but mostly trad climbing. Scrambles are also quite long and steep so good shoes are essential.
3. The Gower Peninsula, Wales
A big open space with lots of beautiful rocks. The Gower’s got brilliant surf, historic landmarks, caves, dramatic cliff tops, treks, panoramic views and an array of stunning unspoilt beaches. Pretty bloody good! The campsites are cheap and very popular during the summer. Visit the Gower if you love camping, climbing and surfing.
4. Bridlington North, east coast of Yorkshire,
This stunning shingle beach lies just north of the beautiful city of Hull. It’s a perfect spot for sailing, relaxing and the stunnin Flamborough chalk cliffs do not let down. There are plenty of b&bs, camp sites ad even farms where you can stay and get some seasonal work.
5.
