The Book Club

100-106 Leonard St, EC2A 4XS (020 7684 8618)
Tube: Shoreditch High Street

The scene: Not bookish at all, The Book Club is young, buzzy and on-trend with a soundtrack featuring the best left-field indie from the last decade and a ping-pong table that fits right in.

The grub: Nachos are always a good barometer for the rest of a bar’s snack menu and The Book Club’s, complete with homemade salsa, doesn’t disappoint. The calamari is also very good.

Behind the bar: An array of bespoke cocktails. We try the Pear Crumble which kicks like a mule both in flavour and potency. Ditto the refreshing-yet-complex Nicky’s Last Fling.

Bill please: With the most expensive cocktail costing £7.50 and a good selection of wines at all prices you can drink in style without hocking your grandma.

Verdict:
A place for fun and frolics: why can’t more bars be like this?
