“Their whole election season is just one month long, four weeks, that’s like only three new iPhones from now,” said British host John Oliver, who is covering for regular host Jon Stewart while he is off directing his first movie, Rosewater,
Oliver compared the brevity of the Australian election with that of the USA which takes far longer, before taking aim at the scandals and ill-informed candidates who have been front and centre in the media coverage.
Nicknaming it Down Undercision 2013, the satirical show’s host pokes fun at Peter Dowling’s sexting scandal, and says:
“Of course the real test is does it have an under-informed, right wing woman thrust into a national political spotlight she’s not only unprepared for but at times seems to barely comprehend.”
Oliver then goes on to say that Australia has its own Sarah Palin in the form of Stephanie ‘I don’t oppose Islam as a country’ Bannister.
