Anyone drawn to The First Days Of Spring by the jaunty Five Years’ Time will be in for a surprise. Whether it’s a pleasant one depends on your tolerance for woe-is-me romantic misery. Set around a failed relationship, Noah And The Whale’s second album proceeds at a lugubrious pace, with tracks revelling in names such as I Have Nothing and My Broken Heart, and lyrics rarely moving beyond dear-diary agonising. Still, there’s much to like.
