The scene: With its quirky wall art, mishmash of swanky chairs, bold globe lights and glistening chandeliers, this gastro pub provides its guests with an elegant yet homely feel. There’s also a great beer garden and DJs on weekends.
The grub: An enticing menu, combined with the skills of a first-class chef, makes The Jam Tree a top spot to enjoy modern pub food.
Our Thai-inspired starter Sotong Manis (battered sticky squid with a chilli, garlic and spring onion sauce), is a show- stopper. Next, our tastebuds meet an explosion of flavours and textures with the Slow Roasted Duck Leg with puy lentils, poached pear, walnuts, stilton and chicory.
We finish off with a British classic – a strawberry roly poly and custard, Jam Tree-style.
Behind the bar: Beers and ciders in bottles as well as on tap from £3.70 a pint, plus an extensive wine list. Smooth red Pasos de Capula Tempranillo for £17 a bottle is a winner.
Bill please: Starters from £6.50. Mains between £12 and £18.50. Puddings from £5.50.
Verdict: A relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere, perfect for lazy afternoons with friends.
