The scene: A trendy but not overly-posh pub that overlooks Regent’s Canal. In the upstairs bar you can admire the view from the balcony, plus there’s a restaurant downstairs. You can also sit on the towpath, drink in hand, and soak up some rays.

The grub: Modern pub food. It’s not quite to fancy gastro-pub standards, but the prices (mains from £9-£12) are reasonable. The desserts are particularly lovely.

Behind the bar: Four ales and the regular range of lagers on tap, and a good wine list. Wines by the glass from £3.70 and bottles from £13.50.

Bill please: Two Sunday roasts and a couple of pints for a shade under £30.

Verdict: If you can’t get to Richmond or Greenwich when the sun comes out, this is a great place for a waterside drink. Just keep an eye out for manic cyclists tearing along the towpath.
