The National: High Violet – TNT album review

The fifth album from Brooklyn quintet The National won’t come as any surprise to listeners
who have heard any or all
of their previous four.

The songs remain more about extended verses than big choruses; Matt Berninger’s vocals still don’t get far
above middle C; and the band continue to deal in shades of grey rather than primary colours.

Most of it
is reliably good, but the formula was more effective
on previous album Boxer.
