The scene: The Pembroke was formerly landmark gay pub The Colherne but after
a refurbishment, it’s now opened as a smart bar and dining room, decked out
with cosy dark wood furnishings, and has a sunny rooftop terrace.

The grub: High-quality pub fare, with a string of well-executed staples on offer for £10 and below. The sirloin, served with Maris Piper chips will keep you coming back, while the battered fish and chips is for serious appetites.

Behind the bar: All the standards are behind the
bar, along with a couple of
extra boutique beers and a surprisngly varied wine list.

Bill please: £12 for lunch and a beer, £16 for dinner
and a drink.

Verdict: A spacious, low-lit pub with plenty of cosy spots and friendly, efficient service. A great addition to the area.
