What you don’t count on is staff switching off the lights while you’re on it and starting to close up, leaving you and your loved ones stranded.
This was the plight of London couple Darren and Lynzie Riggs-Long, who say their three young kids suffered nightmares after the ordeal on The Big Wheel at Adventure Island in Southend, Essex.
Mr Riggs-Long, 38, told The Mirror: “We were calling out for about 15 minutes before a member of the public spotted us.
“The attendant came back and switched the lights back on and got us down.
“The children are traumatised. Lewis woke up in the night crying and Kieran woke up shouting ‘get me down’.”
Theme park bosses have apologised and stressed how seriously they take health and safety, but denied the family were stranded for more than a few minutes.
