The Wombats, This Modern Glitch
Liverpool’s The Wombats are one of those bands: you quite enjoy listening to their music while it’s playing but don’t necessarily hanker for it afterwards.
Something of a departure from their guitar-driven debut, The Wombats Proudly Present: A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation, album number two proffers jubilantly uplifting synth-pop that is hard to resist on tracks like Tokyo (Vampires And Wolves) and Techno Fan, which seek to make sense of the alienation of our social networking age.
Punchy and melodic in all the right places, This Modern Glitch is a pleasant outing but with the exception of insanely catchy airwave-blanketing single Jump Into The Fog, it won’t necessarily leave you wanting to listen to it again. Funny that.
