The concert will premiere compositions produced with young musicians during music and digital media workshops led by Hackney born multi instrumentalists Orphy Robinson and Rowland Sutherland, and pioneering digital media artists SDNA. Using Hackney’s rich cultural heritage as inspiration, young people have created new music from Caribbean, Turkish, Indian, African, Balkan and Jewish musical influences, and produced innovative visuals to illustrate the compositions.
The event comes from the founders of Electric Bloom which showcased Hackey’s rich botanical and textile history through digital arts installations and an interactive trail back in September last year. Some installations are still decorating Hackney to this day and the Electric Bloom app is still available to guide the public around Hackney with audio extracts from local residents reflecting on the borough’s past.
The Round Chapel, 1d Glenarm Road, Hackney, Monday the 29th of February at 7PM.
It’s free.
