Featuring choreography by Matthew Bourne, it takes Burton’s gothic-charged tale about a boy with the titular implements for hands and his love for an angelic alienated young girl, herself equally as much an outsider in the Nowheresville, US town they call home.
The film starred Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder, and has become a first cult classic and now bonafide contemporary classic. It is one of Hollywood heavyweight Burton’s most celebrated films, and it truly got the stage adaptation it deserved by Bourne who found widespread acclaim for his interpretations of Swan Lake, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, and who takes a fresh look at the production himself for this first revival since it wowed audiences back in 2005. If you haven’t seen it yet, now is your chance.
