The thieves got a little more than expected when they unintentionally accessed waste instead of the fuel tank.
The castoff cap from the waste tank was found on the floor next to the bus, but the fuel tank had not been tampered with.
Police determined that the thieves left the scene after they were left with a bad taste in their mouths. “We can infer they beat a very hasty retreat, with a somewhat bitter taste in their mouths,” said Laverton Police Sen. Sgt Heath Soutar.
Laverton Police are currently looking for the offenders, but have no interest in returning the goods to the bus company.
