Two Canadians and a New Zealander faced a Gold Coast court on Tuesday accused
of smuggling thousands of ecstasy tablets inside a Sony PlayStation
game machine.
Customs officers in Sydney thwarted the smuggling
attempt when they detected 3,400 MDMA tablets in an old PlayStation
machine and inside the cover of a PlayStation game game on October 5.
The
Australian Federal Police tracked the parcel to an address in Surfers
Paradise on Friday, where they arrested and charged three men.
The
drugs, concealed in four large packets, weighed 900 grams and will
undergo further forensic testing to determine the exact quantity and
purity.
Canadians Tyson Saviro Santolla, Jonothan Bradley Reid,
both 18, and New Zealander Samuel Alexander Crompton, 20, appeared
today before Southport Magistrates Court.
The men face one count each of importing and attempting to possess a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug.
All three were bailed on strict conditions by magistrate Brian Kilmartin, and the matter was adjourned to November 11.
