Coroner Mary Jerram, from New South Wales, said it would be impossible to find the exact cause of death, but that if the police hadn’t attacked the student he would still be alive. She explained to Skynews.com that it was “impossible to believe that he would have died but for the actions of police”.
Jerram recommended that their be a review on the way the police use their taser guns.
Commissioner Andrew Scipione from the police force supported the use of the stun guns, explaining that they “save lives.”
It’s believed that the police perused the young Brazilian student when he was acting irrationally due to the effects of an LSD tab. The police allegedly mistook him for a suspect, who had committed armed robbery.
The police shocked him 14 times and blasted him with pepper spray.
