A toddler’s life was put in danger after an arson attack on two central Napier houses early on Wednesday, police say.
Detective Daryl Moore of Napier CIB said it appeared paper had been set alight and pushed through the window of a vacant house in Wellesley Street.
A couple living in the house next door woke about 4.20am to find the wall outside their two-year-old’s bedroom had also caught alight as a result of the blaze.
“It was very nasty,” Moore said.
The vacant house was seriously damaged.
He said police were interested in speaking with anyone who was in the area near Thackeray Street between 2am and 4am.
“We believe there were people who watched the fire as it burnt.”
