The uni’s scholarship is worth £11k, and the college will become the first educational establishment to offer a competitive varsity gaming team.

The scholarships will be similar to athletic scholarships – support and training will be offered as part of the deal.

Speaking to Sky News, Associate athletic director and e-sports coordinator Kurt Melcher said: “We’ve always been at the forefront of providing opportunities for a diverse student population with different interests and skills.”

League of Legends developer Riot Games announced this year that 27 million people play League of Legends every day, and even more watch it online.
