In a group match against Turkey, Brazil midfielder Rivaldo was waiting for the ball to be returned so he could take a corner.

The ball was kicked to him by a Turkish player and when the ball struck Rivaldo on the thigh, he fell over backwards, writhing on the ground and clutching his face like he had been shot.

It was ridiculous, and was made all the more so by the referee’s decision to give the Turkish player a red card.

Rivaldo was eventually fined 10,000 Swiss francs for the incident that embarrassed football fans around the world.
